About the Shenango River course
The river is a combination of pools, sections of fast-moving water, and sections of still water. The color is dark green and one can only see about 12 inches into the water. The Shenango River begins at the outflow from Pymatuning Dam. The dam can also control the flow to the river.
The first 9 miles is winding and narrow. After the first 9 miles the Little Shenango dumps into the main channel in Greenville. From there the river widens and has a moderate current. There will be some short sections of Class I water with a moderate current.
Continuing downstream, the 15-mile competitive and adventure races start at Kidd’s Mill Covered Bridge. The river continues with a moderate flow for another 10 miles and flows into Shenango Lake. There participants may encounter waves from power boats and wind on the lake. There will be about 5 miles of water to the finish line at NorthStar Marina, 2802 Lake Road, Clark, PA on Shenango Lake (at the Rt. 18 causeway behind the Tara Country Inn).
The river and lake are run by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and life jackets must be worn at all times.
